Abstract
The article discusses the forms and tasks of using the elements of folklore in the novel by G. Yakhina "My Children". The author draws attention to the fact there have been several novels in modern Russian literature that deal with the existence of folklore in the Soviet period (for example, the novels by A. Melikhov "Confession of a Jew" and A. Chudakov "The Darkness Lies on the Old Steps"). These works feature folklore as a type of culture, implicitly embedded in the everyday life of every person. True folklore is opposed to pseudo-folklore, which was the result of the interference of official ideology in the evolution of folklore. It was this experiment initiated by the authorities that formed the basis of one of the plot elements of the novel by G. Yakhina "My Children". It is noted that the novel "My Children" is dedicated to the historical fate of the Volga Germans and the private life of one colonist, teacher Jacob Bach, his love for his wife and daughter, for Goethe's poetry and nature. One of the central storylines of the novel is associated with folklore and its existence among the bearers of national culture: Bach is a collector, amateur researcher and creator of local folklore. Bach falls in love with the written, and most importantly, the spoken word, and develops belief in its magic. However, by the end of his folklore activity he becomes disappointed in it, since folklore itself, especially pseudo-folklore, is not able to influence real events. The article discusses the fate of the "little man" against the backdrop of the impending catastrophe of the twentieth century - repressions and executions, seen in a detached manner by a man who not only does not speak Russian, but does not speak at all.
