Abstract
The article presents and analyzes the text of the -internal review? of the writer A.A. Bek (1902/1903-1972) on the books of M.M. Bakhtin about the works of F.M. Dostoevsky (1963) and F. Rabelais (1965). The review was written to follow the scientist's application to join the Union of Writers of the USSR, submitted in 1970 after moving from Saransk to Moscow. The article also considers the background of Bakhtin's admission to the Union of Writers. The main material is sourced from the personal collection of A.A. Bek in RGALI (Russian Archive of Literature and Art), as well as the archive of the Union of Writers of the USSR, studied earlier by V.V. Ogryzko and described in his book -Who are the judges?? (Moscow, 2016). The author concludes that the initiative of joining in The Union of Writers of the USSR did not come from Bakhtin himself, but from his closest Moscow entourage (V.V. Kozhinov, V.N. Turbin, etc.), who sought to facilitate the life and treatment of the scientist in the capital, giving him an additional status in the eyes of Moscow officials. A.A. Beck's review was not formal; it was essentially original and contained some innovative thoughts about the evolution of the scientist's research method, in particular the influence of his work about the era and the poetics of F. Rabelais on his own reinterpretation of the works of F.M. Dostoevsky. The described facts complement the idea of the Moscow period of Bakhtin's life and the specific circumstances of his admission to The Union of Writers of USSR, which was previously rarely mentioned in the works dedicated to Bakhtin. There is no doubt that the official affiliation of M.M. Bakhtin as a member of The Union of Writers of USSR had a positive effect on his future life.
