The article analyzes the implementation of the montage principle in the cycle of novellas “Br?derschaft with Death” by Boris Akunin. The study showed that, since the author had an idea to create a cinematographic novel, the text is audiovisual, the narration is unraveled in accordance with the montage principles. At the same time, the montage is implemented here both in the utilitarian format, i.e. is used to create a convenient narrative familiar to the recipient, and in the ideological format, i.e. generates additional semantic elements of the text. It is important to note that the entire cycle can be seen as a montage piece, which is built on the principles of cinematic franchise, which makes it self-contained, and through the combination of a series of adventures - actualizes the thesis about the story to finish all the stories. In addition, cinematography (both utilitarian and ideological) is realized on the narrative level, i.e. through the plot development, and on the conceptual level, i.e. by creating and complicating additional images of characters and spaces. In this context, the thesis about the flatness of space and characters (just like on the cinema screen) becomes important, facilitating the identification in them of actual and virtual, “ordinary” and “hidden” images that create a certain “crystal” (G. Deleuze).
