Abstract
We regard the film script of Bulat Okudzhava’s -Privacy of Alexander Sergeich, or Pushkin in Odessa? (completed in 1966) as an important stage in the writer's career, although he did not consider this work to be a successful one. Reference to the history of Pushkiniana allows concluding that the task of recreating the image of Pushkin in prose and drama is associated with particular difficulties (conventionality of the lyric language has its advantages). On the other hand, the depiction of -a real- life Pushkin? always produces extremely high expectations of the reader (viewer), which are never fully satisfied. The article shows how the specific nature of the task (which the author of the film story -Pushkin in Odessa? faced) was reflected in the 44 critical review of T.G. Tsiavlovskaya, who approved the idea but not its implementation. In general, the significance of this creative experience can be summarized in the following theses: 1) having abandoned attempts to portray Pushkin in historical prose, Okudzhava found a way to recreate the images of other favorite writers (Tolstoy, Lermontov); 2) the method of -indirect? representation of writers in Okudzhava’s historical novels can be regarded as a development of the tradition of Yu.N. Tynyanov; 3) immersion in the biography of Pushkin became a powerful creative challenge for Okudzhava as a poet; it was in the lyrics that allowed him to create an image that was adequate (according to Yu.M. Lotman) to the personality of the great poet
