Abstract
The article examines the mythological and literary sources of V. Sosnora's story Man and Horse. Comparative-historical, cultural-historical, descriptive, formal methods of literary research are used. The first part analyzes the plot, the system of images, linguistic and compositional features of this work. The question of the genre originality of V. Sosnora's text is examined separately. The author defines the genre of the work as a historical novel, which required comment and clarification, since this genre definition applies to Man and Horse only with certain reservations. Observations are made concerning the presence of fairy-tale elements and motifs, mythological plots and images in the structure of V. Sosnora's work. Point coincidences with the texts of F. are given Rabelais, F.M. Dostoevsky, R.L. Stevenson, D. London, G. Melville, J. Verne, V. Bogomolov, A. Fadeev, M. Sholokhov. The greatest attention is paid to the context associated with the attitude of the protagonist Samuel Movshevich Shikhel to the mare Magda. Parallels are drawn with the images of the heroes of Leo Tolstoy's novel Anna Karenina: Vronsky, Karenina and the horse Frou-Frou, as well as the plot situations of this text. The similar motives of the death of a beautiful animal through the fault of man, the symbolic correlation of the images of a horse and a woman are compared. An unambiguous conclusion is made that the novel by L.N. Tolstoy is an important literary source of V. Sosnora's story The Man and the Horse, which helps to adequately and fully reveal the author's intention. In conclusion, the idea is given that the story of V. Sosnora is based on interaction with a wide range of literary and mythological sources, due to which the local history of private life grows to broad generalizations.
