Abstract
Theorists of literature distinguish such a genre as the fragment, the impulse for the emergence of which was ancient and medieval texts that have 66 come down to us in incomplete form. The fragment emerged as an independent genre during the Romantic period (Friedrich Schlegel, Novalis). However, E.V. Limonov begins to rediscover and rethink this genre very early in his poetic career. However, he does not base himself on its antique or romantic samples, but on texts of a different cultural paradigm, one based on modernist and avant-garde literature (V. Khlebnikov) and existing within uncensored Soviet literature (Igor Kholin, Jan Satunovsky, Vsevolod Nekrasov, Evgeny Kropivnitsky, Leonid Gubanov, Vladimir Aleynikov). Limonov's fragment genre is becoming more multidimensional and varied than that of his poetic colleagues, who concentrate on the continuation of the classical tradition. Limonov experiments with the genre of the fragment in different ways, including on the syntactic level (for example, the ellipsis, which is widely used in Limonov's poetic fragments and passages, serves not so much as a punctuation mark but rather as a specific artistic device). Moreover, Limonov's persistent attempt to combine genre definition with the title of the text when he refers to a fragment (examples of this combination are given by works or groups of works containing the word 'excerpt' in their titles) makes this genre one of the key elements of Limonov's poetic heritage
