Abstract
The article features analysis of the novel -Pischeblok? (-Canteen?) by A.V. Ivanov in terms of artistic interaction of social and mystical origins in its content. The common point of intersection of these two components is the problem of dominance power over personality. The novel is structured in accordance with the laws of the mystical thriller, where events develop against the background of typical Soviet pioneer camp life, which reflects the problems and trends of the Soviet society as a whole. The writer creates a system of parallels, which reveal to the reader the similarities between the effects of a vampire on an ordinary rights and the influence of Soviet ideology on society. These parallels are related to artistic realization of several motives: psychological enslavement of personality, a person‘s dedication to a higher purpose, the illusiveness of a -normal? life. Development of these parallels places a particular focus on the image of a child. It is the child, due to the purity of his consciousness, who first feels the whole depth of similarities between the life of a vampire community and the team that is formally exists in a pioneer camp. However, it would not be appropriate to view the novel unequivocally, as if it only exposes the Soviet ideology: its key elements, such as duty, collectivism, self-sacrifice for the sake of a greater purpose retain their appeal in the minds of the characters closest to the writer, since they are perceived not in the form of frozen formulas, but in the form of deep spiritual striving for the truth and high ideals. By denying the Soviet ideology as frozen canon, the writer, essentially, asserts its living spiritual essence.
