Abstract
The article discusses characters with an unusual bodily appearance, common in the modern Russian anti-utopian works. Predicting the future, writers create human models, taking into account the achievements of technology, science, and medical practice. An analysis of the parameters of bodily changes, their correlation with the surrounding subject world of the work, and the functions of -bodily modeling? leads the author to the following conclusions. Firstly, the specific appearance of the characters allows visualizing the psychological and cultural diversity of modern society. Secondly, modern literature, making the latest achievements of science material for its generalizations, defends humanistic ideas about the value of a human personality in its present form. Changes in human nature expose a person‘s fear of bioengineering practices. Thirdly, the modeling of characters by today's authors of anti-utopian works is intended to blur the border in the usual opposition -nature/person?, since the human body symbolically embodies the boundary between the external and the internal for the subject. As a result of the reformatting of the landscape of reality, a person is included in a single natural-material Universe, and the "new" body of characters deprives the reader of the opportunity to separate a human and an animal in it. Thus, the described literary device can be considered a reflection of the revolutionary turn in our perception of nature: it ceases to be an external, object; the problem of -man in the landscape? (Andrei Bitov) was replaced by the problem of the landscape of a man himself as a biosocial entity with a complex nature not yet fully understood
