PUSHKIN’S LAYER IN THE TRANSLTIONS OF O. SEDAKOVA FROM F. PETRARCH

Abstract
The influence of the Pushkin style and syllable in poetic translations into Russian was not only an unconscious influence of the main tradition, but also a conscious 99 part of the interpretation of the original. On the example of O. Sedakova‘s translations of F. Petrarch‘s sonnets, it is shown that Pushkin‘s quotes, allusions, and motives appearing in the translation belong to a conscious strategy of understanding Pushkin as a poet of new mood of love, crucial for Russian culture. Sedakova‘s translation of the five sonnets of Petrarch is quite accurate and therefore does not contain Pushkin‘s quotes that would look like a part of translator‘s technique. On the contrary, the task of the translation was the reconstruction of the speech acts specific to Petrarch and the philosophy of love. Sedakova departs from the common images of Petrarch in love in Russian culture, and practically proves that Pushkin‘s love lyrics and love stories was a tool of successive reconstruction of Petrarch within another linguistic tradition. The mediator was Vladislav Khodasevich as scholar, who offered his own understanding of the meta-plot of Pushkin‘s lyrics, which allowed Sedakova to specify the meta-plot of Petrarch‘s lyrics, not limited to his statements and feelings. This meta-plot conceptualizes the relationship between the text effects and the plurality of love situations, and as a result, the particular situations of the lover and his inner life described in these five translated sonnets allow the translation to reproduce the general concept of Petrarch‘s love, showing his difference from his predecessors and the integrity of his perception of love in spite of the claimed «split» feelings. The main thing is that the Pushkin layer introduces the «her» position, she-optics, which demonstrates the canon of Petrarch‘s love from a proper distance. Thus, the translation of Petrarch with an appeal to the Pushkin models of love makes it possible in the sonnets to reproduce the specifics of the Petrarch model without resorting to allusions to other sonnets or stylizations that would interfere with the accuracy of the translation.
